Buy Now To encourage the art of linocut (relief) printmaking, The Silk Cut Foundation has produced a DVD that teaches two very simple linocut techniques to students of all ages. This DVD has been distributed, for free, to every primary and secondary school in Australia. Copies are available for purchase through this website.

The Art Of Printmaking - The Silk Cut Way DVD was created as a teaching tool, giving an easy step by step guide to teaching the contemporary art form of linocut (relief) printmamking. The film emphasises safe practice in its use of tools, as well as in its use of non-toxic blockprinting inks to ensure that it is a safe activity for students of all ages.

'The Art Of Printmaking - The Silk Cut Way' DVD

The 34 minute film contains:
  • a brief history of linoleum

  • examples of stunning artwork created by primary and secondary school students and practicing artists

  • detailed, informative and clear demonstrations of two very simple techniques for creating linocuts. The demonstrations are by two of Australia's prominent linocut artists - Rona Green and Heather Shimmen, both experienced teachers and past winners of the Silk Cut Award.

Extra features include:
  • a gallery of selected works from the Silk Cut Collection, now held in the National Gallery of Australia, Canberra

  • interviews with artists Rona Green and Heather Shimmen

  • the two demonstration sequences for easy playback in the classroom
